It’s been year since I even turned on this computer. Let alone log into this website to write. I’ve maintained it’s status staying live unsure of the place I fit in I guess. Coming to terms with my mental health and seeking help I’m sitting here reading back on what now feels like a lifetime ago on this blog.
In Early November of 2021 I found out I was pregnant again. I’ll have to go more into Everest’s story later for now I’m going to maintain focus on my story and this site. My blog started out an ordinary life I guess with the sole purpose of simply having a place to create something of my own. It became our ordinary life and I allowed criticism, isolation, and the depression set in. I know now a lot of what I was doing was just surviving but I’m sad I wasn’t more honest through this space. That I forgot why I created this blog to begin with. It’s always been for me and I will never allow anyone else to take it from me or take over it again. The space to heal is powerful and the ability to look back can be rather mournful. I’m processing that. I started this mom blog so long ago. It literally grew up with me, it is a part of my identity. It has helped shaped an industry and it is part of history. As are the other first mom bloggers. Who spent hours drafting emails and looking up corporate press contacts only to find that it was us teaching them how to work with us! We explained the benefits of getting your brand linked online and as soon as Facebook and Instagram rolled around we began to share our ideas there too. Then we sold those links too and drafted all of the first influencer contracts there ever were. I have them from 2006. Sending 90 emails a day only to hear back from 1 and it was always the moms who gave us the chance. Now those small brands we promoted are massive and being sold for millions in retail stores.
When I look at social media and influencer marketing and where it came from today it’s just incredible. Making an income solely online is now normalized and long gone are the days of even describing what a blog or what it looks like to make money online. It’s the same formula that’s been here all along. How I was able to find success so early on is simply by showing up authentically with new ideas. Sharing those ideas with other women in collaboration. When I look back on this generation and the industry we built I see mothers leading every step of the way!
I am proud that it was mom bloggers who created the influencer industry, and billions of dollars later I and now millions more are here!!!
Welcome back!
