Edible Easter Playdough For KidsMy girls are big fans of play dough. They just love creating things. So be it baking or making our own play dough or slime it’s always fun to get creative with our hands. This year I’m hoping to spend more moments creating simple memories with my girls. It’s really all about taking time to spend moments that matter together. So making lay dough is a fun activity we like to do when we have a little extra time after school or on the weekend.

Edible Easter Playdough

Materials:

  • 1 c. Vanilla cake icing
  • 2 ½ – 3 c. Powdered sugar
  • Food coloring
  • Mixer with bread hook (optional but recommended)

Edible Easter Playdough For KidsInstructions:

  1. Place 1 cup of vanilla cake icing and 2 ½ cups of powdered sugar into a mixer. Edible Easter Playdough For Kids
  2. Using a bread hook attachment, set the mixture on the lowest setting. Slowly increase the speed of your mixer until the mixture starts to combine well. If you do not have a mixer with a dough hook, you can combine the mixture by hand, but it will take a good amount of elbow grease. Edible Easter Playdough For Kids
  3. If the dough is still quite sticky, add in up to another ½ cup of powdered sugar a little at a time until your reach your desired consistency. The playdough will feel a bit tacky, but should not be overly sticky. Be careful not add too much powdered sugar at a time, as you do not want your playdough to be too dry.
  4. Divide your dough into different sections, and place them in bowls. Using a few drops of food coloring, knead the dough with a spoon or your hand to create different colors of playdough. Edible Easter Playdough For KidsYou can store the dough in an airtight container in the fridge. It’s totally safe for kids to eat plus works really well for play!

Do kids really enjoy eating playdough? All sugar can’t be healthy.

No, but its fun to know you can. Like swimming in a pool of mini marshmallows. Would you do it? I would, but of course wouldnt eat them all, maybe a few. 😉

The kids always love playing with playdough.. but I’d not let them eat it. Play, yes… but eat, no. I like that it’s safe though.

I have never seen this recipe before. Thanks for sharing. My kids love icing, and would super love this playdough, but I would have to keep them from eating too much- insert laughing emoji here. We will definitely have to give this a try.
