Fall is here, and that means kids are back in school full-time—even our youngest is in all-day kindergarten. Of course, having the girls back in school also means I’m spending more time working.
With everything going on, some days our physical activity level can be low. Because of this, when we do have time to spend together, it’s important that we make the most of it. We like to think of ourselves as a weekend family. From beach trips to hiking to fishing, we love to do it all.
Fishing is a great way to get outdoors as a family and have fun. Having three girls, we’re all about letting them break the “bass ceiling” and prove that outdoor activities like fishing are also meant for them. We make sure to talk with them a lot about how they can do anything that boys can do. We especially encourage them to try sports and activities like fishing. They always have a great time!
Another great thing about fishing is that it’s great for both your body and mind. Did you know fishing is actually one of the top activities for mental well-being? Plus, if you choose to keep the fish you catch, they’ll make for a healthy, locally-sourced meal to share around the table. The recipes are endless, and it’s a great way to expose your children to new flavors.
Another weekend activity we love is just getting outside and finding a local park. Here in Orange County, there are so many incredible places to explore. If you’re looking to explore new fishing holes, be sure to check out Take Me Fishing’s™ list of Best Family-Friendly Places to Fish and Boat.
This past weekend, we headed to Ralph B. Clark Regional Park, which is in our city of Fullerton, to fish with our girls. They love exploring new places, and this park didn’t disappoint. Not only did the stocked, three-acre lake make for great fishing, but there were also plenty of places to explore. It’s all about just getting outside and having fun as a family.
