It’s important that we take proactive steps to help keep our dogs protected.

NexGard® (afoxolaner) for Dogs is a beef-flavored, chew that kills fleas and ticks. Dogs love it – so it’s easy to give1, and dog owners can feel good about the flea and tick protection it provides.

Fleas and ticks are not only a threat to your dog’s health, but a pesky problem to solve if your dog experiences an infestation. To help protect your dog, take aim at fleas and ticks in and around your home with these simple tips:

  • Periodically wash your dog’s bed cover in hot water and dry it on a high heat setting to kill any flea eggs and larvae.
  • Make your yard less appealing to ticks and tick hosts by cutting grass short and eliminating brush piles.
  • To combat fleas, vacuum frequently in your home, especially carpets where your dog tends to lounge.
  • Cover all outside crawl spaces and garbage cans to deter wildlife that may carry fleas and ticks.
  • Help protect your dog without the mess by choosing a flea and tick control product like

Merial, the maker of NexGard, has given me an opportunity to offer a chance for your dog to try NexGard for free!

This summer, the maker of NexGard is teaming up with Canine Companions for Independence® to present the Hero Tails dog-umentary series. Hero Tails celebrates assistance dogs and their remarkable partners. When pets receive optimal care they reciprocate with unconditional love and support. In the case of assistance dogs, this means they can spend more time benefiting their partners.

The first video features Steven Toyoji, a U.S. Paralympian hopeful, who has participated in the Beijing games and is currently training for Rio. Get a glimpse into Steven’s life with his assistance dog Ringo by visiting www.herotails.com, where you can watch their video and see behind-the-scenes photos.

herotailsDogs can completely change and transform a person’s life. I know in our family, our dogs are a big part of our lives. We also remind our children that it’s important to help others whenever we can. I want my children to understand that there are many people in this world who are different from us, but there’s always something valuable to learn from others.

Watch the Hero Tails “dog-umentary” series and for each video view or in-clinic purchase of NexGard during a veterinary visit until Oct. 31, 2016, the NexGard team will donate $1, up to a total of $175,000, to Canine Companions for Independence, a national organization which provides assistance dogs to children, adults and veterans with disabilities, completely free of charge.

So, I hope you check out the Hero Tails video series and share it with your friends on social media using the hashtag #HeroTails. Your help will support a worthy cause.

Dogs have always been a big part of our lives as well! Up until recently, we’ve had dogs at our house since I was a baby. Since they’re a part of the family, it’s so important to make sure they’re happy and healthy too!
