Uncategorized

Simply owning a house is only halfway to getting the home of your dreams.

Your interior design choices are key to turning that dream into reality. And color choices play a significant role in tying all your design choices together.

So before you start buying furniture and homewares let me show you a dead simple way to choose the right shade for your home. Getting the right tone for your home is an easy process. Below is a list of things you can do to get the right shade.

1.      PICK YOUR FAVORITES

The key to any big project is starting with baby steps. If you are unsure of what you want, choose your favourite colour, and add these to a Pinterest board. Before you know it will start to resemble a color scheme you can be proud of.

2.      THINK ABOUT THE MOOD

Every room in your house has a different atmosphere. In the bedroom go for a soothing, intimate and restful colour like blue, dining room go for sociable, stimulating and warm colours, in the kid’s room go for exciting energetic and lively colours.

3.      TEST & OBSERVE

Print out or paint small samples of colors around the home and watch (Design By What Matters even let’s you create your own virtual room!). Colors can change throughout the day as the sun comes and goes. An intense color should not be used on all walls or next to a window. Instead, use it as an accent wall with no direct light.

4.      GET PAINTING

So you’ve decided on a color scheme? Decide weather or not you’re going to DIY and learn the right way or hire a professional. A bad paint job is a quick way to destroy your space.

5.      WALK INTO ANOTHER ROOM

Look at how one room looks viewed from the adjacent room. You see if the colours are working out fine.

6.      CHOOSE DIFFERENT COLOR FINISHES

You can use the same colour for the walls and trim but make sure to use different finishes. It brings out a different appearance.

7.      MATCH YOUR FURNISHINGS

Now you’ve chosen your colors it’s time to think about what furniture styles will go with your new rooms. Stick to neutral tones for larger items and add color and personality with accessories like throws and cushions.

Now you’re ready to get started, If you’re looking to give your home a cosy & chic touch, our guide will give you everything you need to know.
