Frozen berriesWith our hectic busy lifestyles sometimes it is hard to get all the nutrition we need. Most American’s fail to eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables.  As busy moms, we want simple, quick and nutritious food that we can serve our families- and we want all that on a budget! With rising food costs, buying frozen fruits and vegetables is an economical way to save and to meet the daily nutritional requirements needed to stay healthy.

The University of California, Davis and the Frozen Food Foundation have paired up and found that by pressing nature’s pause button, frozen fruits and vegetables are usually equal to, or better, for you than fresh because they are frozen at there peak ripeness. This not only locks in flavor, but all the good vitamins and minerals needed to help support your metabolism, a healthy immune system, and maintain overall health!  Not only are they always available in the frozen food section, there is no having to wait until the fruit or vegetable is in season! I stock up when they go on sale and buy a variety so I always have a choice in my freezer.  That way when I am planning a meal I don’t have to worry that what I want has spoiled in the bottom of my fridge! Using frozen saves time because they are already cut or diced for you!

I love making smoothies and shakes with my kids, they love it when they are very berry. We also have frozen fruit on hand.
