Every parent wants to keep baby safe and with the nursery safety tips I shared recently I wanted to share the baby monitor that will keep your nursery safe too! The Safety 1st Genesis Digital Color Video Monitor has to be one of the most unique baby monitors I have come across.
First of all its important to recognize how far baby monitors have come. I remember our first baby monitor was a 1 way hand held unit. It was very simple, and microphone in one big handheld unit and the receiving speaker in the other handheld unit, both needed to be plugged in, the speaker end had a battery option at least.
Then came the black and white units with tiny screens, but now we could see what was going on than just hearing. Next was color screens, then multiple color screens, 2-way communication, and eventual digital video panning capability. These are all great features, its nice to see whats going on in color and be able to talk back if need be. Being able to scan around the room is nice, but many times the viewing can be limited from side to side and up and down.
The Safety 1st Genesis Video Monitor is great because it includes all the features mentioned above but what sets it apart is its wireless motorized camera base. The camera can be controlled by the wireless hand held unit to scan around the room. And instead of using a wide image and scanning around that, the camera neck actually rotates and swivels almost 180 degrees and can go up and down more than 90 degrees.
This is great if you have a room that is bigger than frame or if you have an area that the camera is mounted that just cannot see in all directions. By having the ability to control the camera head, looking around the room is easy as pushing button. I feel like I can really see my baby much better!
Plus the ability to add in 3 more cameras is easy and also displayed 4 way on one screen, or you can view each separately. Then there’s the ability to monitor all cameras at once on the Genesis’s nice crisp screen which is great!
Other features include the softly lit base of the camera unit. This lets you know but also acts as a soft nightlight. The camera unit also features a rechargeable battery which is important if you mount the camera near your baby’s crib. You can charge it as need, but disconnect the power cable when baby is lying down. And if you want to keep the camera not above babies crib, it can be placed somewhere else to watch another view and simply adjusted to look over into the crib. Sometimes Mia likes to fall asleep on her floor so this is nice to be able to use the camera for viewing 2 different areas while not having to move it.
