Holiday Recipes

chocolate toffee Growing up I spent a lot of time in the kitchen around the holidays so I want to be sure that my children have those same memories. This holiday season we have teamed up with Eagle Brand® Sweetened Condensed Milk to sweeten the season!

For 150 years, Eagle Brand® has always been an essential part of your family’s favorite holiday baking traditions, whether preparing fudge, pies, cookies or cakes.  Made from a special blend of milk and sugar that makes baking delicious desserts almost effortless, Eagle Brand®  provides a “fool-proof base” for endless holiday treats.

The buttery taste of sweet toffee reminds me of my Grandfather and growing up around the holidays I could always count on him to bring me toffee so this recipe is a new holiday favorite with a bite of tradition from the past.

 Shortbread Chocolate Toffee Bars  Recipe

Ingredients:

Shortbread Bottom-

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour

Toffee Center –

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 can Eagle Brand®  sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 TSP vanilla
  • 3 TBSP light corn syrup
  • 12 oz bag of chocolate chips for melting

shortbread

To start this recipe you will first start by creating the shortbread bottom crust. You’ll want your butter to be softened and the oven to be preheated to 350 degrees.

Simply mix your butter, flour and sugar for the shortbread. Pack into the bottom of a greased baking pan.

Bake for 25 minutes until edges are brown and allow to cool.

Next you will want to start the toffee layer by melting your butter in a sauce pan. Add your condensed milk and and corn syrup and bring to a full rolling boil stirring constantly. Allow to cook for 5-8 minutes.

Remove form the heat and add in your vanilla. Pour over your cooled shortbread and allow to cool. Once it has cooled you will want to melt your chocolate chips in a double broiler. Top with a layer of chocolate and allow to cool then refrigerate.

Hi, I just wanted to point out that there’s nothing in the actual instructions about the brown sugar for the toffee. I’m currently in the process of making it and I just stirred it in with the vanilla after removing from heat until it was smoothly dissolved. Hope that was right..

Yum! Shortbread cookies are my favorite and I often dip them in chocolate (with crushed candy canes dusted in top if I’m feeling especially festive), but this just takes it to a new level. What a wonderful flavor combination!
