Easy Ideas for Cosy Home Chic Appeal

With the golden hues and beautiful burnished orange tones of autumn beginning to appear, it’s time to turn attention to your home and how to make it a warm and inviting place for the winter months. During the summer, the emphasis is very much on outdoor living and cool colours, but with darker evenings on the way, now is the time to consider ways to give your décor the alterations it needs to produce a cosy, welcoming ambience which will make your house a haven from the cold weather.

Wooden Furniture Always Looks Appealing
Wood is a fantastic, traditional material for fine furniture and household fittings. Whether you choose to opt for original antique furniture, reproduction items or ring the changes with a contemporary piece of two, wood always looks good and will fit well with any décor. Spectacular period items make superb accents for your lounge or hall, are reassuringly easy to maintain and very durable. An online shop can usually provide what you are looking for, or visit your local auction for the chance of an older dresser or chair.

Fantastic Lights Transform Your Home
Particularly during those days of the year when there is relatively little sunlight, well-chosen interior lighting can transform a gloomy interior into a cosy, inviting retreat from the elements. These days there are a plethora of different options available, from vintage standard lamps through to uplighters, spot lights and fairy lights. A large mirror in the living room or landing can reflect light beautifully and give a wonderful illusion of brightness and space. Use discreetly placed illumination to subtly emphasise objects of interest or relieve a dark corner.

Colour is Crucial
Nothing says “a warm welcome” like accents of colour from a fire inspired palette. Use cushions, dried leave arrangements, rugs and pictures which include shades such as amber, dusky rose pink and cinnamon for striking features which will cheer without being over powering. Autumn and winter are the times when a snuggly throw is a practical asset and a powerful design statement, so treat yourself to a spectacular example this season. Colonial furniture in particular benefits from patchwork soft furnishings, in keeping with the origins of the design.

Remember that smell is as important as look in creating an appealing ambience in your home. Invest in scented oils, a perfumed candle or pot pourri which has spicy or woody notes to give an added stylish touch. Use these ideas to transform your living space into an enticing, cosy den that you won’t want to leave.
