It’s so important during the long winter months that you keep a healthy diet. It’s important for many reasons and one being you feel better and you don’t get as sick. There are simple ways to incorporate fresh fruits and veggies into your meals. To help inspire you Del Monte is offering a “Add Some Garden” Contest. Visit the Del Monte Facebook page from November 5th through February 4th to enter the Del Monte “Add Some Garden” contest for the chance to win one of the many prizes available, including kitchen appliances, and $25 or $500 gift cards to Williams Sonoma.
There will be five phases during the contest in which Del Monte will feature a different canned variety every two weeks. Fans will have five days during each phase to submit their best tips, and consumers will be able to vote for their favorite tip during the second week of each phase
The five winning tips for each phase will then go head-to-head for a chance to win a Grand Prize culinary travel adventure, valued at $10,000, which will be announced February 15th

I add extra fruits and veggies to my diet as well as my families diet by serving at least one vegetable AND one fruit with every meal including dinner! It is not always fresh, sometimes I just pop open a can of Del Monte peas and a can of Del Monte fruit cocktail! I am definitely a southern cook, so I feel better making my family eat fruit to make up for the cornbread and fried foods and sweet tea that my family loves!
I add shredded parsnips to my chowders- adds a touch tanginess and helps as a thickener.

I sneak veggies into almost everything! Okay, not usually desserts, but I hide peas in mashed potatoes, carrots and corn in chili, throw them all together in a blended soup, etc. We definitely get our fair share!

I add canned tomatoes and zuccini to our spaghetti sauce. I also keep fresh veggies cut up and ready to eat in the fridge. My kids love to grab them and eat with ranch dressing.

We love fruits and veggies so adding them to our day is pretty easy. We always have fruit on hand like the fruit cups in the winter when the fresh stuff gets expensive. For veggies, I find if its cut it will get eaten.

I have to admit that I’m not a veggie lover. I do like some vegetables in soup; and I love lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers. My husband loves vegetables, especially any and all beans and squash. He gets most of his veggies when we go out to eat. He piles up on them at buffets. Fruit is not and issue. We all like fruit. We don’t always have fruit in the house at all times; but we eat them straight up or in yogurt, smoothies, with cottage cheese, etc.
