The weather can be unpredictable at times and we we get closer to winter it’s important that we stay prepared and stay safe. Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) are once again working
with local fire departments nationwide to raise awareness on the importance of working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in helping to keep families safe in their homes. Being prepared for things like fires during the winter months is also very important. We went over information with our children just a few weeks ago.
Thirty-eight percent of fatal fire injuries occur in homes with no smoke alarms, while 24 percent occur in homes in which at least one smoke alarm is present but fails to operate, frequently due to dead or missing batteries.* It is important that you have batteries around your home for emergency’s and our family trusts Energizer.
We received a safety kit that included some great products from Energzer.
- One 2-pack of Energizer(r) MAX(r) Batteries (9v) with Power Seal Technology – Dependable, powerful performance for the devices that help keep your family safe; now hold their charge when stored for up to 5 years
- One Energizer(r) Flameless Wax Candle – Enjoy the realistic flicker of a scented wax candle without the worry of open flame or hassle of soot and dripping wax
- One Energizer(r) Weatheready(r) Safety Light – Waterproof flashlight powered by AA, AAA or C cell batteries; includes safety whistle and imprinted preparedness checklist
- One Kidde Battery-Operated Combination Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm
Giveaway!
We also have one safety kit to give away. Kit includes:

I haven’t really started preparing until recently. We’ve been moving all over the country so I was trying to get prepared when we finally got settled into a new home for a while. We should be doing that at the beginning of the year so I’m preparing by making my emergency needs list, starting an emergency binder to keep all our important documents in, and have started stocking up on batteries 🙂

I live in a fairly mild weather zone as far as cold weather goes, so our biggest emergency possibilities are the occasional tornado and ice storms. In a tornado, as long as it doesn’t hit your house. loss of electricity is usually the biggest problem, so I have emergency lighting available, some no-cook food and try to keep the car gassed up.

We are prepared for emergencies with extra food and bottled water in case of emergencies. make plans already
I’m sure the storms back east have stirred up a lot of concern about food storage and emergency kits. Having an emergency kit is a great way to get started. I also recommend first putting together a 72 hour kit and simple first aid kit. Then make sure you have ample amounts of water stored for one week. After that, then work on a 3 month supply of food. Remember to store what you eat. Make a plan for one year and work on one thing each month. This will make what seems like and overwhelming project easily accomplished.

We keep water, food and batteries stocked, as well as lantern fuel and a first aid kit.
I always have ample canned goods, water, and make sure my flashlights and batteries are replenished!
