Fun Foods for Families Uncategorized

I love seasonal flavors and I think nothing feels more fall than apples and pears. As far as fruit goes, they are the fruit of the season so I try to work them into many of my recipes. I wanted a fun and new spin on a classic apple pie and that’s exactly what I created with this apple pear pie recipe.

Apple Pear Walnut and Raisin Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pie crust with extra dough for lattice top
  • 2 apples sliced
  • 2 pears sliced
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/2 raisins
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1/2 raw cane sugar
  • 1/2 brown sugar
  • 1tsp cinnamon
  • 1tsp All Spice
  • 1tsp nutmeg

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.

Once apples and pears are sliced add them to a bowl and toss with cinnamon, All Spice and Nutmeg. You’ll also add the walnuts and raisins. I also added a little organic cane sugar on the fruit.

You’ll want to melt the butter and add the flour in a sauce pan. Then add in the sugar until melted.

Easy Pie Dough Recipe: I made my own dough quickly in my stand mixer The recipe is super simple  1 1/2 cup flour add in a pinch of salt, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. You’ll mix in your stand mixer with 8 tablespoons of cubed butter. The butter should be very cold and you should use the flat attachment. Whisk on medium high until the dough is coarse then add in a tablespoon of water at a time. I did 3 tablespoons and it rolled into a ball. I then placed the dough in plastic wrap and rolled out. I had enough for the dough and the lattice top.

After putting the dough together simple put the apple, pear, spices and walnut raisin mix into the uncooked pie shell. Add the lattice top to the pie.

Bake:

Baked for 50-60 minutes.

BEFORE baking: Pour the butter and sugar mix over top of the lattice pie. There will be enough to cover the top of the pie. Yes, I said cover up the pie dough too.

This looks delicious. I love apples and pears but would never have thought to put the two together in a pie.

This looks really good-I might even vary it by leaving out the walnuts and making this into mini-muffins!

Thank you for posted the Apple Pear Walnut and Raisin Pie Recipe. I like the idea you used cane sugar – I’ll have to give that a try.
