With summer upon us finally, it is time to enjoy the back patio more. Being a city of a lot of plants and foliage we have problems with insects. Some of the most annoying are flies and yellow jackets. The flies are a nuisance while the yellow jackets are scary, especially to the kids.
Black Flag sent us their flying insect trap to give a try. A couple of months ago we picked up a hanging wasp and yellow but it has done little to trap any. So we hoped that this flying insect trap would work out for us. We first loaded it with the fly trap lure and it has trapped a few flies. We don’t have a lot to begin with, but getting rid of the few we do, is great for preventing them from getting inside the house.
We decided to hang our trap, but you can also stick it in the ground with the provided ground stake attachment. This would be good for wasps that like to hang around the plants that get watered. These traps would also be good around pools that draw yellow jackets and anywhere outdoors you want to rid of flies or yellow jackets.
The pests are trapped in the liquid solution and drown from exhaustion. The refills are easy, just pour them in the trap and add the right amount of water. The refills last about 1 month but try to hang the trap in areas that receive morning sun and afternoon shade. If after 2 weeks the traps begin to dry out you can add water to refill the canister to ½ full to re-activate the lure. Trap refills can be purchased for flies and yellow jacket species and wasps.
One winner will receive one Black Flag Flying Insect Trap, as well as both a fly lure and a wasp and yellow jacket lure.
