The ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent Patio Lantern is good to have around during these warmer spring and summer days. We are spending more time out back as it gets warmer, but with that extra heat come black flies, mosquitoes, and other flying nuisances. The ThermaCELL lantern propels up to 98% of these flying pests and also provides and high and low setting light and is great for outings of all types. We will also be using this for the kids who like to play out back on those warm evenings.
It has 4-LEDs (uses 4 AA batteries, not included) that provide a nice ambiance and has an effective protection area of 15 x15-feet area which is about the size of the average patio or deck. It provides repellent with no open flames or waxy products and using no DEET and is approved by the U.S. EPA. The repellent also gives off no smell and has a silent operation design.
The ThermaCELL lantern operates on butane to warm the repellent pad that releases allethrin. Allethrin is a synthetic copy of a natural repellent found in pyrethrum flowers which are part of the chrysanthemum family. It comes with 1 butane cartridge (lasts up to 12 hours) and 3 insect repellent mats which last up to 4 hours each. All refills can be purchased separately.
The lighting has a low and high setting, low using 2-LEDs and high 4-LEDs. To operate the repellent part, you slide the switch to on to open the butane and push the ignite button to light it. Looking through the little hole you will see an orange glow letting you know it’s working. The repellent pad area does get warm, but the overall lantern is cool to the touch, making it safe with kids around, make sure to tell them not to touch the top.
We will be using ours for the back patio and also night outings and for camping. Check out their other ThermaCELL mosquito repellent devices for camping, hunting, and whenever you want to keep theme pesky bugs away.
