Recently our family attended a media event for Fred Meyer which Murray’s Cheese, a Greenwich Village fixture in New York City since 1940 officially debuted in the city of roses. Portlanders will be able to find Murray’s Cheese inside the Burlingame Fred Meyer with more locations in the Hawthorne and Hollywood Fred Meyer stores. These additional locations will open their cheese shops at the end of summer.
Murray’s Cheese inside Fred Meyer will feature more than 100 cheeses which includes locally made cheeses All of the cheeses are easily categorized and the cheeses arrive at Fred Meyer in whole wheels. They are packaged and cut right in your local Fred Meyer store. For those who don’t know much about cheese you’ll find classes and plenty of cheese experts there to help guide you.
Since our family attended the event help at Fred Meyer we were able to learn more about Murray’s Cheese Shops and the mission behind bringing great artisan cheeses to our area. As a person who doesn’t know much about cheese I found there was a lot to learn. In fact, I found that there are ways to better enjoy cheese. I personally loved the Pepper cheese which has a slight taste of pepper. I also found that goats cheese and blue cheese can be made a lot better and actually enhance the taste with things like honey comb and honey. I personally don’t like sour cheese but it was really enjoyable.
My husband and I left the event with a greater appreciation for cheese and what tastes good together. I found myself buying some of the cheeses we tasted and look forward to enjoying the cheese with my husband for a dessert. Pair with a glass of wine and you have a delicate and decadent desert. Like I said I can now appreciate cheese like never before and enjoy getting to know cheese better with the help of Murray’s and Fred Meyer.
