Fun Foods for Families

homemade strawberry ice cream

I got an ice cream maker long ago and I’ve been dying for it to get warm enough to start making my own ice cream. I actually found a recipe book that has savory flavors of sorbet and sweet ice cream flavors. I remember as a child my Grandfather would make the best strawberry ice cream with huge pieces of frozen strawberries.

Strawberries are now in season so it’s a great time to make a few quarts of ice cream and save them in the freezer and that’s exactly what I did! I used all organic ingredients but you could use anything you like.

Fresh Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream Ingredients:

3 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
2 large eggs
1 cup sugar, divided
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

strawberry ice cream ingredients You will want to refrigerate your hauled and chopped strawberries for an hour before making your ice cream.

In large mixing bowl beat eggs until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Gradually add 3/4 cups sugar, mixing well. Stir in milk and vanilla and mix well. Add strawberries. Gently stir in whipping cream.

My ice cream maker suggest I let it run for 20-40 minutes. Mine took about 40 minutes and then I placed the whole thing in the freezer.

In the end we had perfect strawberry ice cream. Just like the ice cream my Grandfather used to make with plenty of berries!

be careful when using raw eggs to make ice cream. Usually your supposed to cook the egg mixture, I am surprised food.com doesn’t state that in their directions.
