Portland Family Fun – May 20th-23rd Activities

With all the warm weather there’s sure to be some local events that are going to please, plenty of time outdoors is in order so this week there’s plenty to do around the Portland metro area. I hope to inspire family’s get out and explore the city.

Family Friendly Activities In Portland Oregon

Friday May 20th:

*Lady Bug Nature Walk  Portland; 5/20; 10:00am; Walk through parks, gardens and natural areas. Touch slimy slugs, smell tree bark, feel crinkly and soft leaves, hear musical bird songs etc. Cost is $3 per toddler, adults are free! This weeks walk will happen at Cathedral Park.

*Creative Play At Isobels Clubhouse  Portland; 5/20; 9:30am to 11:30am; As part of creative play, kids can dress up in costumes, play with toys, read stories, play games or create in the art space.

*Sing-Alongs With Mr. Ben–Portland; 5/20 at 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Free interactive educational show for kids and parents.

 

Saturday May 21st:

*Family Day at The Oregon History Museum – Portland; 5/21; Stumptown Coffee will be hosting an Around the World Coffee Extravaganza, with free tastings and explanations of some of their delicious and fair trade coffees. Children will love the coffee mosaic craft we will be hosting all day. Two children admitted free with one paid adult admission.

*Mt. Tabor Art Walk – Mt. Tabor Neighborhood; 5/21-5/22; 10:00am to 5:00pm; This annual art walk includes 40 participating artists in this free art walk. Check out website to download free map of the art walk.

*2011 Dozer Days – Vancouver; 5/21; 11:00am to 4:00pm; Kids hop in the driver’s seat and actually drive big yellow dozers, dump trucks and other heavy equipment with a professional operator at their side. Event benefits local charities. Buy tickets online ahead of time and admission is $5 for children (ages 2 – 12) and seniors (55+), $7 for adults and free for those under 2 years old.

*Free Entrance To Oregon Maritime Museum – Portland; 5/21; The Oregon Maritime Museum’s steam sternwheeler Portland is moored at the Willamette River in downtown Portland’s Waterfront Park.  This Saturday is family day offering free admission.  *Make sure to call ahead on this one as we couldn’t find confirmation on the website. (thanks Portland On The Cheap!).

*Northwest Mother’s Milk Bank Benefit – Portland; 5/21; 3:00pm to 5:00pm; This benefit will feature Mr. Ben and The Alphabeticians performance as well as Balloonist Olive Rootbeer .$5/person or $20/family.

* Free Family Swim At Marshall Community Center – Vancouver; 5/21; 4:45pm to 6:30pm; Bauman Chiropractic is sponsoring free family swims at Marshall Pool Saturday evenings.

* Kids Saturday Morning Skate Session At Oaks Park Portland; 5/21; 10:30am to 12:00pm; For $5.50 children 10 and under can skate (skates included). Parents free with paid child admission.

*Free Guided Nature Walk: Amphibian and Snakes – 5/21; 10:00am to 11:30am; Join park rangers for a free guided nature hike – Amphibian and Snakes.

 

Sunday May 22nd:

*Kenton Street Fair – Portland; 5/22; 11:00am to 7:00pm; Free event offering interactive games, kids crafts, bingo, intro to yoga street practice, face-painting, coaster car exhibition and more.

*East Portland Sunday Parkways – Portland; 5/22; 11:00am to 4:00pm; This event connects Lents, Bloomington, Ed Benedict and Gilbert Heights Parks with a 7 mile traffic-free route that includes a long section of the Springwater Trail.  Included in the event will be fitness classes, safety lessons, food, games, and more.

 

Monday May 23rd:

*Washington County Museum Free Admission – Portland; 5/23; 10:00am to 4:30pm; Admission is free to this museum every Monday.

*Mondays On The Mall – Portland – Downtown Central Transit Mall; 5/23; Various Times; Free events all day including Wii play, caricatures, the original photo booth and entertainment.
