Everyone loves to have people to stay, whether it’s friends after a night out or family members travelling miles to see you for a couple of days or more. While many of us may have to deal with retreating to the sofa bed and offering them our comfortable double for the duration of the stay, others will likely have the luxury of a guest room for the occasion.
Guest rooms come in all shapes and sizes; from a double bed tucked up the corner, covered in stuff that has to be shifted before your guests could even get through the door, to the sizeable double bedroom that is kept neat and tidy for the arrival of visitors in the future. To be called a guest room, rather than a spare room, it needs to have something special about it. It could just be an airy, well decorated room with a ready-made bed with fresh linen but if you are lucky enough to benefit from a good sized room, there’s more that can be done with the space.
Consider one of the classy, beautifully made British small sofas from Sofas and Stuff to position along one wall. While your guests will likely be spending the majority of their time socialising with you, if they want an early night (or if you do!), somewhere comfortable for them to perch before they turn in would be a lavish treat.
Many guest rooms won’t have a wardrobe in them because chances are, visitors won’t be staying with you for long enough to need one, but it’s always a nice touch. A small but effective wardrobe or chest of drawers will enable them to make themselves at home while a bedside cabinet would be perfect for their night-time read and a glass of water.
Decorate the room in neutral colours that will ensure it is airy and fresh. Change the bedding before they arrive so that it smells beautiful and make them feel like they’re welcome in your home for the duration of their stay.
Having the room for guests is a wonderful asset to have – make the most of the space you have and create a beautiful guest room for them to enjoy.
