When VTech approached me about reviewing the new VTech V.Reader I knew right away it would be something Kaila would like. She has all kinds of hand-held systems and reading systems but nothing has been quite like the V.Reader. Kaila is all about trying to read and learning her letters so I think 5 is a great age to start the V.Reader at. Especially if your child is starting to learn sounds and syllables.
The V.Reader also teaches things like early reading comprehension, vocabulary, phonics and helps with word building, along with a story dictionary that describes word definitions in ways young children can actually understand.
It also has an electronic reader that will play animations and read the story outloud. By doing this it better helps to engage younger children and help teach them the beginning stages of early reading. It has a easy to use touch screen system as well. Kai loves the techy part of it and knew exactly how to use it right out of the box.
As a parent one thing I like about the hand-held gaming systems is that parents are able to better track a child’s progress online. The game stores things and can actually tell you if your child is gaining skills they didn’t have before.
I like to consider it a mini Kindle for kids. It’s perfect gaming fun for busy on-the-go moments and it’s something I don’t mind her having. Kai’s friend Lily who is 7 came over today and even she enjoyed playing with it. It’s meant for ages 3-7 but even the older kiddos have just as much fun with it. It’s perfect for that up and coming reader!
V.Reader will be available exclusively at Target June 21 and nationwide in August at all key retailers and online at www.vtechkids.com.
