Sometimes Our Children Do Not Know

by Kristin on November 14, 2009

I am an emotional person, I guess being a Pisces it’s just my nature. I am sentimental beyond belief, my need to save everything conflicts with Del’s need to constantly have order. Recently Kai decided to give Bookie her old stuffed pink monkey. I know no big deal, but today I looked over at Bookie sleeping with the monkey. I saw Kaila. My little baby, so sweet just sleeping. I remember how it felt when Kaila was born, and that feeling became that much more strong with Brooklin’s birth.

Del and I bought this little pink monkey right after Kaila was born. Monkey’s were the “thing” and we just happened to find a pink one. It’s all warn and dirty now, I remember watching Kai drool all over it. I’d be afraid to pick it up because it was just soaking wet with her drool. We moved to California, moved back. Somehow the little pink monkey made its way with us.

And now its made it way to Brooklin. Kai gladly handed it over last week, saying she badly needed to give Brooklin a stuffed animal.  Kaila not knowing how much that monkey really means.

Sometimes our children don’t know the memories we as parents hold onto. Items they may find worthless, or old and dirty.

I’m glad it’s Bookies.

I’ve found it goes both ways: parents don’t always know the memories our kids hold onto. My girl’s 13 now and I’m often surprised by the memories she holds dearest.

Kindness from children, especially toward a sib, is the best kindness of all.

That is great! I wish my kids shared with each other that way. One of them will give something up only to demand it back within minutes.

Aw that’s so sweet! I hope that baby #2 for us is a girl! I’d love for Peanut to have a sister.

That was a great post Kristin! Isn’t it amazing the memories that come back to you when you look at your children as they grow? Happy Sunday!
