September 23rd will be the first-ever National Family Game Night. Hasbro is hoping to encourage family relationships across America, hoping that families reconnect during game time.
Some of my all time favorite games include Connect 4 and Monopoly. Our family would spend countless hours battling it out. Some Monopoly games even lasted so long we’d leave the game board our on the dining room table. It would drove us nuts just trying to finish. Those were the days, and I admit as a parent while I enjoyed this as a child I don’t spend enough time with my family.
This is why we will be taking the Family Game Night challenge and every month make sure to set aside one night. We’ll battle it out and enjoy one another.
Connect 4 the original is one of Kai’s favorites. I loved the game as a kid, trying to beat Josh (my bro) would drive me nuts. I can’t even tell you how many hours we spent laughing playing this game. Kai loves numbers so it’s also a great way to practice numbers. They say it’s for ages 8 and up but Kaila is four and loves it! ![]()
They’ve actually redone this classic game and you can now play Connect 4×4 with up to four players.
New features include:
- Clear, double sided game grid
- Four-player game
- Ringed Checkers
- Double Checker
In honor of National Family Game Night I encourage you to set aside time to play with your family. There’s some really great games being redone so make sure to check out your local stores. Places like Wal-Mart carry great Hasbro games at a good price. Games like Guesstures and Pictureka! Flipper are great for families with older children. Although I know even the young kiddos would get a kick out of gestures. She adores Operation another family classic. Monopoly City is also another wonderful remake for older adults and children. I love that you can now build skyscrapers, and own the city. There really are wonderful games for every age

Tips: Choose games that all family members can play. Be patient if little ones are playing. Teach them by pairing them up with an older sibling. We plan to have to have our Family Game this coming up Sunday.
